The HLRA is encouraging everyone to become familiar with the U.S. Navy’s plans to address environmental contamination at two former landfill sites (Sites 3 and 12) at the former Naval Air Station – Joint Reserve Base, Willow Grove, PA.

The Navy’s preferred alternative for each site is discussed in separate Proposed Remedial Action Plans.  These Plans discuss the site background, summarize the site risks and remedial alternatives and detail the Navy’s selection of its preferred alternative, which is to cap the contaminated soils and landfill wastes with a two foot soil cover.

The Plans are available at the following link:  https://www.bracpmo.navy.mil/brac_bases/northeast/reserve_base_willow_grove/public_notices/

The Navy is accepting comments on the Plans and its preferred alternative from the public.  The public comment period is open until October 25, 2020.

Community input is important in the remedy selection process and especially in these sites as the former base will be redeveloped by the Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority.

The HLRA urges all members of the public to take advantage of this opportunity to participate in the environmental cleanup process at the former NAS-JRB Willow Grove by submitting a comment.  All comments will be addressed in the final Record of Decision for each site.
