Community Residents Can Provide Input for Reuse of NAS-JRB Willow Grove

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Community Residents Can Provide Input for Reuse of NAS-JRB Willow Grove
Horsham Township - April 14, 2011

The Horsham Township Authority for Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove (HLRA) is encouraging residents of the region to participate in an upcoming community workshop being held at the Horsham Township Community Center on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:00 PM.  According to HLRA Director, Mike McGee, the meeting is another step in developing a plan for the base’s future redevelopment.

“Local residents have asked to be involved in this planning process, and we hope that they will take advantage of this opportunity.  From what we heard at the public kick-off meeting on February 7th, nearly everyone in that room thought the reuse of this property was very important to the future of the community.”

The community meeting will be facilitated by RKG Associates, Inc. of Alexandria, VA, the lead consultants selected by the HLRA to prepare the reuse plan.  The consultants will provide residents with a presentation of existing conditions on a variety of topics including:  real estate market trends, environmental conditions, infrastructure, transportation and land planning issues.  They will also report on the community survey results from the first meeting and present the list of 17 notices of interest (NOI) submitted by organizations interested in obtaining portions of the base property.

RKG Vice President, Russ Archambault, noted that the upcoming meeting is not specifically about the individual NOIs.

“Our task relating to the NOIs is to review each submission thoroughly and provide the HLRA Board with solid recommendations.  We’re just getting started with that review.    Our evaluations will be used as we develop various alternatives during the overall planning process later this summer.   We hope the citizens can assist us on Wednesday night in identifying all the different options they believe should be considered in the overall plan.”

Following the existing conditions presentation, RKG will organize participants into four break-out groups to discuss various reuse issues currently being examined by the team.   In addition, residents will be asked to provide input to assist in creating a set of planning principles or standards that will help guide the planning team as it prepares reuse plan concepts for the property.  These concept plans will be presented to the HLRA and the public later in the planning process.

To maximize the time allocated to this process, the normal HLRA business to include the DVHAA lease and the revised Redevelopment Plan for the Offsite Housing in Warminster Township and Ivyland Borough will be considered at a special HLRA meeting on May 4, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Horsham Township Municipal Building.
